Dish Up Literacy is September 18, 2008

Dish Up Literacy?

Dish Up Literacy is a delicious community event that brings neighborhoods together to celebrate and boost children's literacy! Dish Up Literacy is supported by local chambers of commerce, promoted by local merchants, publicized by local newspapers, hosted by local restaurants, and patronized by local families. Who benefits? Children at local schools.

By simply going out to eat at participating restaurants on Thursday, September 18, you, your family, and your friends can make it possible for deserving kids to own new books.

If you represent a restaurant and are interested in joining this year's participants in Dish Up Literacy, please contact LeAnne by email or call 206.461.0123.

Who is Page Ahead Children's Literacy Program?

Literacy can make the difference between the poverty of one generation and the promise of the next. Page Ahead helps children realize their potential by providing them with new books and the inspiration to read.

Page Ahead is a non-profit agency serving 50,000 children in need in Washington State each year. In addition to distributing new children's books statewide, Page Ahead works to educate and involve families in their child's reading efforts and engages community members in activities, such as book drives and reading events, to support local reading programs.

Page Ahead operates on one simple and astounding fact: being read to as a youngster is the foremost predictor of academic success in childhood. Succeeding begins with reading.
